O’Neill Backs PNC Candidate in Manus

Peoples National Congress Party Leader and Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill says the coalition-led Government has big plans for the small island of Manus.

O’Neill said the government’s plans for a cannery project is now in its final stages, with strong determination to have it implemented.

The Prime Minister made this statement during a campaign rally for PNC member and Sitting Manus Governor, Charlie Benjamin in Lorengau this week.

Despite the drama over the Manus Detention Centre, the PNC leader was welcomed. O’Neill spoke highly of the economy and budget break-up by the PNC-led Government for the past four years.

For Manus, O’Neill believes the Cannery Project will push the local economy forward.

Governor Benjamin is running against 25 other candidates for the regional seat.

It is to be stated that much of the infrastructure developed in Manus comes under the Manus Asylum Deal.

And with the Supreme Court decision for its closure and withdrawal of refugees, O’Neill is calling for Manus to turn its eyes to embrace the Tourism sector.
