On this episode, we focus on informal economy.
According to a research by the PNG National Research Institute, almost 80% of Papua New Guinea’s population are involved in informal economy.
The informal economy supports over 80% of PNG’s population. We bring light in this episode to the Informal Sector Development and Control Act which was put in place to manage the informal economy. However, the implementation of this ACT was not effective hence there was a call for it to be reviewed. Dr Eric Kwa gives us an insight into this Act. We also talk to Dr Elizabeth Kopel from the PNG National Research Institute who highlights some of the research they have carried out in the informal economy throughout the country.
The Olsem Wanem team also caught up with some street sellers to hear their side of the story.
