We place the spotlight on maternal mortality in PNG. Two thousand Papua New Guinean women die annually in the event of giving birth to their babies. Maternal mortality is faced globally but not to the extent as faced in PNG. WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific Dr Takeshi Kasai efforts in the past have not been successful in addressing this issue hence new approaches have to be taken by all relevant authorities to address this very serious issue of having two thousand women die annually when giving birth.
We also feature the LifeWrap garment which acts as a first aid device to stabilize women who suffer from post-partum haemorrhage.
This technology was typically used to keep astronauts from blacking out during extreme acceleration by squeezing the arms and legs to push blood back towards the head.
