New Girua Look as Airport Facility Improves

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Girua Airport in Northern Province will now increase its services. This follows the completion of the upgrade of airport facilities under the CADIP Program.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill held hands with Governor Gary Juffa to officiate the new look terminal built in partnership with the World Bank. The terminal was given a traditional trademark, improved runway, better luggage belts, and a new interior look.

Civil Aviation Minister, Alfred Manase, says the upgrade of facilities will see the level of services lifted. The upgrade of Girua is under the Government’s CADIP program to upgrade and maintain ports throughout the country.

PM O’Neill says despite the tough economic times, the Government is doing its best so that the people benefit. The upgrade of Girua took close to two years to complete.

Governor Gary Juffa says landowners must be at the forefront of any development. With Northern Province a seasonal tourist destination, calls have been made to have international flights into Girua.
