Prime Minister Peter O’Neill travelled into the sleepy town of Popondetta to open the newly refurbished operating theatre.
Speaking at Popondetta General Hospital, PM O’Neill says more work needs to be done to improve health services throughout the country. He says politics should not stop leaders in delivering better services to the people.
Staff, hospital management, provincial authorities and other government officials witnessed the official opening by the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was given a tour of the facility, after the official opening.
The Prime Minister says, for the first time, better services such as new operating theatres will be built and equipped for hospitals and Popondetta is one.
The Management of Popondetta General Hospital has also played a big role in raising funds for equipment in the theatre.
He further said such initiative is strongly supported by the Government but more work needs to be done.
Construction of the operating theatre began in 2014. Now the facility is prepared to carry out operations for patients who visit the hospital.
