The Grassroots Foundation donated cash and food items to prisoners and CS Officers of Bomana prison, outside of Port Moresby, during the Easter weekend.
Patron Michael Kandiu speaking at the event said these gifts will encourage prisoners to become good citizens.
While the Christians celebrate the death of Jesus Christ with the carrying of the cross across Port Moresby city, Bomana Prisoners outside of Port Moresby received gifts from the generous NCD Grass Roots Foundation.
Kandiu and families presented the food items including 2 cows and pigs, and cash contribution of K5,000.
Bomana Prison Commander, Vincent Kundi, thanked the Grassroots Foundation for coming to the prisoners’ aid with these gifts during the Easter Period.
Kundi said this would support the department in organising activities for prisoners in times where the department has funding constraints.
The NCD Grassroots Foundation started in 2002, and has been operating for six years purposely to alleviate poverty in NCD and Motu-Koitabu villages.
