NCD Cervical Cancer Vaccination Program Launched

Getting an injection is scary for any child, but 9-year-old Christianly Wagai was brave enough as she made history as the first girl to get vaccinated in the program.

Christianly is the first of the 20,000 girls estimated to be vaccinated in NCD. Girls aged between 9-14, will be eligible for vaccination However the call is for parents to give consent.

The Grand Mother of Christianlyn says she’s happy because it gives her granddaughter a chance not to contract the Human Papilova Virus, or HPV.

This was the same message from Lynda Babao – O’Neil, wife of the Prime Minister.

She said the vaccination program will protect the next generation and asked for all parents and guardians to give approval on vaccination.

Meanwhile Health Minister said the department is looking forward for the vaccination to be rolled out to the rest of the country in 2018.

Nine other girls were vaccinated today; by next week the Department of Health will begin the vaccination programs at public and private schools in Port Moresby.
