National Fisheries Authority and Autonomous Bougainville Government to Sign MoU

The National Fisheries Authority and Autonomous Bougainville Government will sign an MoU, paving the way for the ABG to take charge of the Autonomous Region’s Fisheries sector.

The MoU which will be signed in Buka on Tuesday, is part of the National Government’s commitment under the Bougainville Peace Agreement, and the Organic Law on Peace Building.

And this MOU is also part of the implementation of the Joint Supervisory Body Resolutions.

Minister for Bougainville Affairs & Member for Central Bougainville, Simon Damarinu, said the Agreement is crucial for the economic development of the Region, especially at a time when it is preparing for a referendum on its political future.

“As the Minister responsible my office plays the advocacy role between the two Governments and will continue to facilitate and coordinate the implementation of the Joint Supervisory Body resolutions in accordance with the Bougainville Peace Agreement (BPA) and the Organic Law on Peace Building.

This (MoU) will bring in many spin off benefits and more importantly improving the standard of living putting money in the pockets of Bougainville and food on the table.

I urge all Bougainvillians to take note of this very important and symbolic event and take full ownership and participate” – Simon Damarinu, Minister for Bougainville Affairs & member for Central Bougainville.
