The Mt Hagen City Authority would like to revive the Garbage and Sanitation tax Act among other plans for the City’s development.
CEO, Leo Noki thanked the Seventh-day Adventist Church for assisting in cleaning Mt Hagen City last week. Noki said the Authority would continue to maintain the City clean.
Noki is warning business houses and residents of Mt Hagen that the Authority will soon revive the garbage and sanitation taxes.
He said this would provide enough funding for them to collect rubbish in the City.
Noki said Mt Hagen City has been left unclean for a long time because of politics and also no bills have been paid for them to pick rubbish. He said since the SDA’s have took the initiative to partner with the Authority and clean up the City, it has changed the mindsets of the people.
As part of their plan to brighten up the City, they have put up street solar lightings. This is the alternative lighting because the street lights no longer lights up at nigh and, is in its first phase.
The second phase will see streetlights along the Okuk-highway, which will end at the Kagamuga International Airport.
The CEO has also challenged the Market’s management to come up with cleaning programs for health and hygiene.
Currently, the main market has water blockages and hygiene issues for sellers and buyers.
The City Authority has urged everyone to be mindful of their rubbish and continue to keep the City clean.
