MRDC calls for more inclusion of landowners within petroleum and energy projects

Landowners of resource fields within Papua New Guinea’s petroleum and energy sector must be considered as equal partners in ensuring project success.

Augustine Mano, Managing Director of Mineral Resource Development Company, MRDC, made these remarks when addressing the Inaugural PNG Petroleum & Energy Summit in Port Moresby today.

He said perceptions of landowners being a hindrance to the development of a project was incorrect, and called for more understanding from project developers when dealing with landowner issues.

The comments come on the back of incidents involving landowners, and claims of landowners not being given the attention, especially from government agencies.

According to Mr. Mano, issues involving landowners have to be given the priority they deserve, to create a win-win situation for all stakeholders in promoting and developing the country’s petroleum & energy potential.
