More Patients than Health Workers

The country’s health system is under pressure as COVID-19 cases continue to rise past the 7,000 marks.

St John Chief Executive Officer Matt Cannon says officials are seeing an increase in covid patients outnumbering the health workforce.

“There are soon going to be more patients needing care and the nurses and doctors we have available across NCD are not enough to cater to these patients.”

Cannon says this is a concern and people must adhere to measures put in place.

While St John Ambulance is creating more space to cater to the growing number of COVID19 cases in NCD, the resources are becoming a concern for the non-government organization.

Cannon said they have identified that there is a need for extra doctors and nurses and have asked for funding support to send some St John Ambulance Australia nurses and doctors to provide assistance here in PNG.

The number of COVID-19 cases is likely to continue to grow and Cannon is urging to follow measures put in place to help stop the spread.
