Residents of Morata 2 in Port Moresby want proper water and sewerage system be built for the community. Speaking to EMTV News, they stated that for years using pit toilet and walking around the city to access clean safe water has been a common practice for them. They say they want the authorities to consider their plight, as water is essential to their daily chores.
For more than 15 years, communities in Morata 2 have been walking to other parts of the city to fetch water. They say the Government and local member of Parliament have neglected them for too long. They want a proper water and sewerage system for their communities.
According to some of the residents, on numerous occasions, only talks between development agencies have watered down for unknown reasons.
Living conditions have been an issue for this particular Morata community. For some households, students attend school when there is water available for use. Countless efforts by community leaders to bring this water issue to Moresby North-West MP, Sir Mekere Morauta, have been turned down.
Most say this part of the city is lacking proper water and sewerage system. While most call for better clean water for residents, more illegal water connections in and around Morata is becoming normal, thus making water utility Eda Ranu, to work extra hard and crack down on residents.
