MOGA ELECTORATE PROPOSAL SUBMITTED TO AUTHORITIES

The people of the proposed Moga region located between the provincial boundaries of Morobe and Oro province are taking a step into establishing a new electorate.

The proposal was made to the Government and the Electoral Boundaries Commission (EBC) to give urgent consideration to the establishment of the Moga electorate.

This was expressed in a statement that the proposal is not only timely but necessary for the people of Waria Rural, Morobe Rural, and Kira Rural LLGs located along the borders of Oro, Central, Morobe and Gulf Provinces.

The proposal is based on the facts that the area is very remote and is located in a geographically challenging location where government services have struggled to effectively reach the communities.

Chairman of the Community Initiative Working Committee for the Proposed Moga Electorate, Noah Kenea expressed in a statement that the areas lack essential government services.

“For over 50 years since Papua New Guinea gained independence, our people have continued to face hardship due to limited access to basic services, infrastructure, and development opportunities. This has resulted in ongoing inequality and underrepresentation.

“We are now calling on the EBC and the Government to allow for the creation of our own electorate so that our people can be fairly represented and have their voices heard in the National Parliament,” he said.

They are proposing that the establishment of the Moga electorate will bring the government closer to the people, improve service delivery, and ensure that development is inclusive and responsive to the needs of the communities.
