MISS DWU’S INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGES OF EMPOWERMENT

By Ken Jacob, DWU Journalism Student

Theresianthea Bengi inspired students with a strong message of unity and empowerment during the International Women’s Night celebration at Divine Word University on Saturday night.

Bengi, a fourth-year Communication Arts and Journalism student and current Miss Divine Word University, spoke on the theme “Give to Gain,” encouraging women to see giving as a powerful way to grow and create change in society.

She told the audience that the greatest rewards in life come from what people give rather than what they receive. She highlighted that women have the ability to give kindness, courage, knowledge, time, and their voices, which in turn builds confidence and strength.

Bengi also raised concern about ongoing challenges faced by women, including gender-based violence and discrimination. She said change begins when women stand up, speak out, and support one another.

“When one woman stands up, she gives courage to another. When we support each other, we build a strong chain that cannot easily be broken,” she said.

She encouraged young women at the university to use their education not only for personal success but also to serve their communities. She urged them to give their voice to the voiceless and support those who feel weak.

Reflecting on her pageant journey, Ms. Bengi said true beauty is not about appearance but about having the courage to stand for what is right and using one’s platform to make a difference.

She challenged women not to underestimate their power, reminding them that their voices, dreams and actions matter.

Bengi concluded by calling on women to give hope, support, and courage to others in order to build a better future where every girl can live with dignity and opportunity.

The event brought together students and staff to celebrate women and promote empowerment within the Divine Word University community.
