Minor Meetings leading up to the Senior Officials Meeting for APEC 2018 got underway today in Port Moresby.
They include discussions on Disaster Preparedness, Illegal Logging and Timber Trade Management.
This is the third APEC related meeting, Papua New Guinea is hosting. The other two were the Informal Senior Officials and the Transport Ministerial Meetings.
The minor meetings kicked off in Port Moresby with four separate meetings on four different topics.
During the meeting on Illegal Logging and Timber Trade Management, Chair Putera Parthema highlighted that the discussions were on promoting timber trade and how to combat illegal logging.
For Papua New Guinea, PNG Forest Authority is directly responsible for the logging sector.
PNGFA deals with the amount of levies, which are charged on each log and are the issuing of export licences.
A team from PNGFA were part of the discussion this morning.
The outcomes aimed to achieve from this meeting, include raising more awareness on illegal logging in the 21 APEC member countries.
