Menyamya Honours Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare

“Lo yu tasol na mi salim pikinini blo mi go lo skul na kisim gutpla save.” (Because of you, I am able to send my child to school to receive an education).

This was the words of a parent of a child attending Aseki Primary School in Menyamya Morobe Province, taking part in a tribute ceremony held on Tuesday at the School to honour the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.

Aseki Primary School is located in the Nanima Kariba Rural LLG in Menyamya District of Morobe Province. On Tuesday (9th March 2021) held a tribute ceremony to pay their respects to the founding father Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.

The staff and students of Aseki Primary School were also joined by the communities in the area to pay their respects to the founding father Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.

In a moving ceremony, community leaders also performed a traditional farewell “brukim spia” which is only performed to honour warriors.

The School’s Board Chairman Mathias Posam explained that this is only done to honour great warriors (fighters) when they die.

The School’s staff and students, along with the communities also contributed in cash or kind which were transported to Lae (today) to be handed over to the provincial government to transport to Wewak later.
