Meauri Off To Thailand

PNG Swimmer Judith Meauri will be leaving for Thailand on a 12-month training scholarship.

Meauri is one of PNG’s elite swimmers who has received this training scholarship. She began swimming at a young age, and has been participating in the sport for more than 15 years.

Meauri started representing Papua New Guinea at the age of 13 and took part in her first major tournament.

“I had around 2 years off from training from 2012 to 2015 I wasn’t competing and I just started getting back into competition last year.”

She was notified by FINA about the scholarship earlier this month, and will be leaving for Thailand on the 1st of December.

“This is my 1st training scholarship so I’m excited about it, I look forward to a new environment a new culture a new coach and yeah everything is going to be different, so yeah I look forward to the experience, it should be good and i’ll come back and tell my fellow swimmers about it hopefully they can also get on a similar scholarship in the future.”

Meauri was named in the train-on squad for the Olympics after attending the last FINA championships.

The train on squad includes, Ryan Maskelyne, Sam Seghers, Georgia-Leigh Vele and Meauri.

“And so we’ll be vying for a spot which is one male one female by June next year after Oceania.”
