MARAWAKA PEOPLE BUILD ROADS AS PART OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

In the remote Obura Wonenara district in Eastern Highlands Province, the people of Manigiri, Marawaka, and Jomuru communities have celebrated the completion of a community development project.

This has seen community members actively building roads and maintaining footbridges in the area.

Led by Yeila LLG Ward 4 Councillor Ather Worinu that included 8 ward areas of the LLG with the project to benefit more than 10, 000 people.

Though a little community development project it has brought together community members on the common goal of community service and development and the need for basic government road services in the area.

Led by the newly elected Councillor Arther Worinu of the Yeila local level government (LLG), a young man with a passion for community service and supported by the Obura Wonenara district development authority (DDA).

Yeila LLG Ward 4 Councillor Ather Worinu said the project is a first of its kind initiative since Independence that involves all 8 wards of the Yeila LLG and community participation aimed at cleaning communities and the main roads and bridges in Marawaka known as one of the most remote communities in the Eastern Highlands Province.

Worinu said the initiative involves all 8 wards which are 1. Garipmei, 2. District station, 3. Kwakisilo, 4. Marawaka Manigiri, 5. Gulwato, 6. Gawi, 7. Sindeni and 8. Jomuru Wauko.

He said the community development project included the cleaning and maintenance of the new Bridge which benefits the Manigiri, Komwa, Marawaka and Jomuru communities with over 5000 population including school children and neighbouring communities who access the bridge.

Worinu thanked the community members who contributed to make the project a reality as constituents in the area.
