The Blood Testing Service Laboratory at the Madang town Clinic has been affected, when electricity was completely cut off a week ago.
This is the beginning of the clinic’s second week with no power. The outage is also affecting vaccines and other medical supplies that critically need to be kept in refrigerators.
According to PNG Power Madang’s inspection report, the problem is due to the condition of the health facility, and not the power lines.
The clinic’s Sister-in-Charge, Judy Alingo, visited the District Health Program Manager, Bernard Milton’s office, that’s just across the road from the clinic for help, but was told by Mr. Milton that there’s no money.
The Madang town Clinic, like most other government clinics in Madang, has been operating in a rundown building, dating back to the colonial days.
Responding to this situation, the Madang Provincial Health Director, Marcus Kachau, said funds to renovate the clinic are now being released, with contractors already assigned for immediate start.
Meanwhile, the Program Manager, Bernard Milton has told the nurses to attend to patients only with emergencies cases.
