By: Mortimer Yangharry

The Wabag District Development Authority (WDDA) is committed to join the Wabag District with the Lagaip District in Enga Province.

The Sopas- Yokonda Road Project is one of 15 road projects initiated by second term Wabag Open MP and Health Minister Hon.Dr Lino Tom  after he first took office in 2017.

This vital road link will open up the rich agriculture area in this part of the province which has been inaccessible due to no road connectivity since time immemorial.

The People’s Party parliamentary leader sincerely acknowledged the tireless input by the project engineer Jonathan Kongon and his hard working team for finally constructing the concrete abutment of Lyalu Bridge that will connect these two districts.

“Graveling of this road and upgrade will commence after this bridge construction finally finishes,” Minister Lino said.

Minister Lino added that the Wabag Rural Road Network Program has an aim of reaching its entire population in effect fulfilling the slogan of “ Leaving No one Behind” accordingly.

The medical surgeon turned politician emphasized on the Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) III which talks about the importance of building “ENABLING INFRASTRUCTURES” as they will pave way for other developments to follow suit.

Minister Lino added that the Wabag Rural Road Network Program has an aim of reaching its entire population in effect fulfilling the slogan of “ Leaving No one Behind” accordingly.

The second term MP maintained that structural inequalities must be addressed by providing an equal platform for everyone as envisaged by the Constitution in the Preamble in the National Goals and Directive Principles which clearly espouses the principle of equity and the provision of every citizen an equal opportunity to their own personal development and the pursuit of life, health and happiness.

“One’s status in life must not be based on their social, religious, political, tribal or any other affiliations in life but must be determined by how hard one is willing to work and sacrifice to reach one’s dreams and ambitions in life,” Minister Lino said.

As the Chairman, Minister Lino stressed that as a district government, the Wabag District Development Authority opt to make sure all these structural inequalities like lack of access to markets, health, water supply, telecommunication services, rural road network, education, etc are adequatly addressed to make sure everyone is given an equal platform to compete and achieve their goals, dreams and aspirations.

This strategic road project is funded by the Wabag District Development Authority with support from the National Government’s Connect PNG Road Program.
