Local fashion designer files law suite against wholesale giant for copyright infringement

Fashion Designer and Entrepreneur, Annette Sete, has filed a lawsuit at Kokopo National Court against East New Britain’s biggest Chinese retail and wholesale giant, Tropicana Limited.

The court documents were served to Tropican’s director Dame Sandra Lau for alleged Copyright infringement of the famous Tabu Wheel fabric designs.

The court documents served on Dame Sandra stated that Ms Sete’s original and exclusive idea was researched and created to be printed on fabrics and that, only she has the exclusive rights to reproduce the design, adapt, arrange or transform the design and distribute to the public by sale of the said design.

Among several claims made, Mrs Lau was alleged to have knowingly and intentionally copied the Tabu Wheel design on fabrics to take advantage of the success of the local designer’s intellectual property in the market place.

The court documents stated that the Tabu wheel design is the kind of work eligible for copyright protection.
