Lae City Council Employees Row over Delay of their Fortnights

Almost a hundred employees of Lae City Council fronted up at the City Council Office today (14 December, 2018), demanding an explanation from the management on why they were not paid for almost two fortnights.

The employees were officers responsible for cleaning up the city and the Lae market.

The officers said the pay delay issue has been ongoing for almost 5-years.

According to these they gathered at the office yesterday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to get a response from the Management, but the management was not available to clarify the delay of their pay.

The issues of pay delays to employees and Lae city Council contractors outstanding payments have been ongoing for almost 5 years.

This morning, the delay in the employees fortnight triggered there frustration.

They are later told by the LCC Acting Director for Corporate Services Alex Gawi that K58 000 was deposited into their account today.

The employees have called on the Management of Lae city council to look into the matter seriously as it is also affecting them.

They also said the management should provide a financial report for the period they were not paid.
