Kulunga On Bail

Police Commissioner Toami Kulunga has been released on K10 000 bail last night.

This comes after he was sentenced by the National Court to 21 months imprisonment with hard labor.

Deputy Chief Justice Gibbs Salika was the one who handed down that decision yesterday afternoon.

That is 7 months each on all three counts of contempt charges.

Justice Ere Kariko presided over the bail hearing was satisfied with the grounds of the appeal.

Mr. Kulunga was granted bail in a special Supreme Court hearing last night.

He was released on grounds that he has poor health and that his conviction might affect the stability of the constabulary.

Justice Kariko presided over the bail hearing and was satisfied with the grounds presented by Kulunga’s lawyer Lance Okil of Parua Lawyers.

Geoffrey Vaki’s lawyer Sam Bona did not object the bail application.

He said, it was in the best interest of the constabulary.
