Koroba- Kopiago Rural Airstrips to be upgraded

By Stanley Ove Jr – EMTV News,  Port Moresby

Four Airstrips in the Koroba-Kopiago District of Hela Province will undergo restoration and maintenance from the Rural Airstrip Agency (RAA).

This was made possible after a Memorandum  of Agreement (MoA) was signed between the Koroba-Kopiago District Development Authority (DDA) and the RAA.

Local MP and Minister for Immigration and Border Security, Petrus Thomas said the partnership is very timely and will serve those in remote areas of the district. He said an estimate of over 70, 000 people are expected to have access to the four airstrips which will also open up routes for Government services to reach the people.

RAA CEO John Bromely said the airstrips will be restored and maintained to Civil Aviation and Safety standards. RAA will re-develop and maintain the Kopiago, Wanikipa, Auwi and Fugwa airstrips.
