Kokonas Indastri Koporesen receives K1million to Combat BCS

The study of Bogia Coconut Syndrome is a work in progress for Researchers who strive to figure out a treatment for it.

This week, Kokonas Indastri Koporesen received K1million from National Planning Department to assist in its work in combating BCS.

Secretary for the National Planning Department, Koney Samuel said, this funding is to assist KIK in eradicating the coconut syndrome.

National Planning Minister, Richard Maru said due to Bogia Coconut Syndrome and the threat it poses to coconut planting materials at its Gene Bank, and research center in Madang, the research center will be relocated to Milne Bay Province.

Minister Maru said, because of this syndrome, the research center could not be in Madang, and has to be relocated to Milne Bay.

According to reports, there is no treatment for the Coconut Syndrome as yet.

This plant disease is only found in Madang, however, there have been concerns that it could spread to other provinces, if not contained.
