It has been 14 years, and Waira Berua still wakes up every morning with a heart to teach and serve her community. She was awarded CPL’s Pride of PNG Award for women in the category of education in 2011. Berua has been running this school voluntarily since 2004 but says, she loves the children and knows that she is investing in PNG’s future.

On Friday (May 25), Koki Wanigela Preschool in Port Moresby celebrated its 14th Anniversary. The preschool runs two classes for different age groups, and caters for over 100 students.

Preschool founder, Waira Berua, teaches on a voluntary basis and has been doing so for the past fourteen years. Every day, she teaches an average of 50 to 60 students.

Koki Wanigela Adventist Community Services Leader, Cecilia Waburi, said the preschool has such a big impact in their community.

Waira Berua won CPL’s Pride of PNG Award for women in the Education Role Model category in 2011. CPL Representatives were also present to celebrate the achievements of the preschool.
