Kabwum District in Morobe Province is yet to reach the round four target population for polio vaccination.
A community health worker in Yalumet, Musa Bosing, said not all parents brought their children for vaccination during the campaign, adding that another problem faced was with logistics.
“The road condition and distance did not allow us to travel to every village to vaccinate children…but we made awareness. Majority of parents brought their children but few did not.”
He said the Morobe health authority has instructed them to carry out another round of polio vaccination next year.
Meanwhile, other health centres in Morobe have done well, reaching their target population this year. More than 300,000 children ages from infants to fifteen years old have been vaccinated.
The Morobe health advisor, Micah Yawing, said three cases that were found are now under control.
