The Papua New Guinea U19 Garamuts faced West Indies on Monday in their first warm-up match but fell short of bagging a win.
West Indies proved to be the better side, defeating PNG by 7 wickets.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Garamuts were instantly put under heavy fire from the West Indies’ bowlers.
Despite being first timers to this level of cricketing, the Garamuts went down fighting.
Top order trio; Simon Atai, Igo John Mahuru and Heagi Toua held steadfast as they cruised towards the 20th over.
But an accumulative of only 55 runs was bagged and they were sent off the crease.
The middle order fought to stay on top but West Indies did not let the Garamuts get ahead.
It took another 20 overs to bring the score to 93, losing another 4 batsmen along the way.
PNG as all out at 105 runs after 40 overs.
The second inning saw swift reply from the Indies, as it took them only 20 overs to beat the target of 105 set by PNG with 3/106.
