Ipatas: Stop deportation and investigate

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Enga Governor Peter Ipatas is upset over recent media reports relating to the deportation of Americans Julie Lutz, Anton Lutz and Jeffrey Horn, based in Enga Province.

Governor Ipatas said there is church politics in the Lutheran Church in Enga, resulting in false and misleading information from people on the ground.

Ipatas called on Foreign Affairs Minister and Wapanamanda MP, Rimbink Pato to halt the deportation and seek the truth behind the work of these missionaries. He says church politics was evident in Enga, especially the Lutheran Church, which caused instability in the church and people.

“These missionaries have done many good things for the Enga people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister and Wapanamanda MP, Rimbink Pato said his department was asked to intervene, following numerous reports on the work of these Americans. Minister Pato said their (the US missionaries) reported involvement with the Gutnius Lutheran Church and local level government politics was not in the best interests of the local community, church and district.

As a result of complaints from church leaders and the community, Minister Pato has requested the PNG Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority to investigate the alleged breaches of law and government policy.
