Churches play a prominent role in the development of our country. And the relationship between the Churches and the government is crucial for development. General Secretary for the Catholic Bishop Conference stated that Papua New Guineans know the role the churches play in service delivery in remote areas of PNG where government services cannot reach.
In support of this continuing relationship Prime Minister O’Neil attended the Lutheran Synod in Mogl, Chimbu Province.
“We are here to show our support for the work Churches carry out in the country,” the Prime Minister said.
He said recently the Lutheran Church celebrated 500 years of reform and like any government or institution, reform is done to help strengthen people’s way of life.
Prime Minister O’Neil while reiterating on the importance of the Church – Government partnership acknowledged the fact that church leaders work in a challenging environment and that the government is supporting a lot of church programs especially health and education services.
The churches play a big role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) especially with service delivery in the Health and Education sectors which has been the government’s primary focus areas.
