The Hela Provincial Government has announced dates for gun-surrender programs and peace ceremonies throughout the province.
Hela Governor, Francis Potape, says these dates must be followed, before the gun amnesty elapses.
On February 27, all guns will be destroyed. The gun-turn-in dates therefore will fall between February 13 – 23.
Hulia LLG will begin and end on February 23, in Beneria. On the February 27, all guns will be destroyed.
Potape, says those who ignore the dates will be dealt with by the joint forces.
PNGDF Task Force Contingent Commander, Lt. Col John Manuai, said those who have licenses to guns must also declare their firearm, and the ammunition they use including, where they bought it from.
“I appeal to those individuals to come forward as well, for us to identify those firearms,” said Commander Manuai.
So far three major gun-surrender programs have been effected in the Call Out Operation.
Meanwhile, Hela Governor, Francis Potape, is calling on the Electoral Commissioner to screen the appointment of Assistant Returning Officers in Hela.
Governor Potape said community leaders are seeing ARO’s moving around with intending candidates with rumors of inflating the common roll.
The Hela Provincial Government has warned all ARO’s to carry out a free and fair election.
