Community leaders of Hela, and relatives of the two slain police officers in Southern Highlands are want answers from authorities in the next 10 days.
Yesterday the leaders held a news conference expressing their shock at the type of killing that took place over the weekend.
However, they have maintained, that there will be no retaliation. They said the action by those involved will be treated as a security threat. Relatives held placards demanding answers from the Government, Police hierarchy including leaders and people of Southern Highlands Province.
Hela Provincial Administrator William Bando condemned the shooting, however said Hela will unite peacefully and assist police in the investigation. The incident happened last Saturday when the policemen were returning from Mt Hagen after official duties. They were ambushed in the Imbongu District of Southern Highlands.
Hela will be presenting a petition to the relevant authorities in the next 72 hours. Leaders have maintained that there will be no retaliation, but want answers for the motive behind the killings.
The two deceased officers are from Koroba-Lake Kopiago District.
