The K11million allocated for the Call-Out Operation in Hela has been slammed by Opposition Leader Don Polye.
Polye said that the call-out was unnecessary given the financial circumstances faced in the country. Polye added that the operation would suppress the good people of Hela.
“The Call-out is unnecessary, Hela people are good people, the current situation can be fixed if authorities put their heads together,” said Polye.
He says the Government owes money belonging to the resource owners and must pay these entitlements.
“The Government should just pay the K25million or K35 million promised to them by the State, end of story, ” Polye goes further.
The NEC decision this week will see involvement of police officers, and soldiers deployed to the fighting zones in the coming week.
Hela Governor, Francis Potape believes Hela is not in the stage of declaring a call-out or State of Emergency.
Governor Potape also called on law enforcement officers in Hela to carry out their responsibilities so law and order issues are addressed. “We have law enforcement officers in the Hela Province, however they are not doing enough to address the escalating clashes between the different groups,” said Governor Potape.
