Health centre neglected for over seven decades to be refurbished

The Togoba Health centre in Mt Hagen has been selected by the European Union and UNICEF, under the Klinpela Komuniti Project or WASH Program to undergo much-needed refurbishment work.

Built in 1949 to serve as a Leprosy Centre, it was later used as a Health Centre and serves about 22,000 people in three districts.

The facility has been neglected for over seven decades and is in a deteriorating state.

Care International WASH Program Manager, Patrick Goimba says, the program focuses on hygiene and sanitation, however, given the situation of the health facility, they will also renovate the health centre.

Work is expected to commence today.
