Golf Penant, an Opportunity to Boost Young Golfers

by Marie Kauna – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

At the 2018 Telikom golf pennant sponsorship announcement, Telikom PNG National Retail Manager, Amos Tepi said the sponsorship for the annual corporate competition is one opportunity provided to allow junior golfers or young members of the clubs engage in the competition, to learn and grow their skills in the sporting code of golf.

In support to Tepi’s statement was PNG Golf Association President Peter Del Monte. Monte said the sponsorship will cater for other factors including the development of young junior golfers.

“ The Golf penant is not only a monthly competition, it is an opportunity to allow corporate sponsors the opportunity to come together and compete for the breaking rights of being the champions of the penance competition. The competition also brings together a number of factors such as the junior members to compete in the competition, these helps their junior members develop skills for future generations,” Monte said.

He said junior golfers are currently preparing for the coming junior Olympics later in the year. He said this is one important reason all participating corporate houses sponsoring their teams for the competition should include more junior members for the competition.

This he says will help contribute to the development and growth of the sporting code for many young Papua New Guineans who have a passion in golf and also allows for them to learn as many skills as possible from their senior members and other participating members as well.

Monte commended Telikom PNG for its continuous support in the pennant competition.
