The Under-19 PIH PNG Garamuts have been improving being defeated by Zimbabwe in the first game of the World Cup for both teams.
Zimbabwe scored a total of 321 for 9 wickets in their 50 overs, while PNG fell short with 93 all out of 35 overs.
According to the U-19’s National Coach Rodney Maha, there were a number of dropped catches during the Zimbabwe innings.
“We dropped eight (8) catches in the match which caused us a loss in the end. Our best bowlers were Rasan Kevau with (3/60 off 10) and Christopher Kilapat (2/31 off 4) and Junior Morea (2/62 off 10), “said Maha.
Coach Maha said they made a lot of improvements in battling and bowling but creating opportunities only to lose them
“If only the boys made good use of the opportunities, we could have competed a bit better. However, with upcoming matches, we’ll be looking forward to pick our best team to keep working to create opportunities to play competitively. Though this match was against another good team we think we created enough pressure to put them under all sorts of problems. We want to raise our bar in the next game to get better. The boys are looking forward to the next game against Afghanistan, “explained Maha.
The coach also congratulated some of the players who debuted in their first international match.
