Fijian Prime Minister Pay Respects to Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare

A memorial service in honor of the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare was held in Fiji today.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji, Frank Bainimarama stated sadly that he would have liked to be in PNG to farewell his friend however, he is barricaded by COVID-19 restrictions.

Fijian PM, Frank Bainimarama among those who turned up to pay their tributes.

In remembering Sir Michael’s magnificent life, PM Bainimarama said, we don’t just celebrate his legacy; we live it.

Every day, people of the Pacific reap the blessings of his life’s work, of the influence that he wielded and used for greater good, of the friendships that he established and maintained, and the words of wisdom that he gave us. For all of this, we must always be truly grateful.

The Fijian PM along with Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Dame Meg Taylor, read out Sir Michael’s Eulogy at the memorial service.

Those who knew the Grand Chief, turned up to pay their respects and celebrate his life’s work.
