The Port Moresby turnout for the farewell of Grand Chief, Sir Michael Somare, at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium was disappointing. The general feeling was that the event was poorly planned and executed.
The Sir Hubert Murray stadium was empty, and the rain didn’t help the day.
NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, was also late at his own event.
The Grand Chief will be leaving for Wewak tomorrow in what could be his last public appearance.
At the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, the father of the nation stood at the entrance for nearly an hour waiting for the Master of Ceremony, NCD Governor, Powes Parkop.

A guard of honour was given again, and the Grand Chief was asked to inspect the squadron.
The National Capital District was scheduled to farewell the Grand Chief today. But, the turn out was not fitting for the father of the nation, and the rain only made things worse.
The Sir Hubert Murray Stadium seating stands remained empty, as a historic era comes to a sombre closing.

Stupid plan organisers, no major notices and public information about our Paps farewell. Nogat sem blo tumbuna blo ol. Now I will never get the chance to see bubu Somare with my own eyes again; I will only see my K50 note money and think of him. Really sad and sorry about the poor turnout but at least Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare must know that it’s a blessing from the rain to farewell you because the people or your people are too busy looking for you to survive in their everyday life.
Bye bubu Somare, but I will still forever see you on my K50 note money.
Come-on its PNG-time. Don’t make a big fuss out of it. Nothing is delivered on time in PNG. Our UN membership was overdue, OUR PLL bills are overdue, OUR government wages are overdue. So don’t be surprised when the plan organisers are late, the crowd is late, the ceremony is late. The only thing that is not late is Mr Somare’s farwell complain to show how hopeless we are in managing our country where absolutely nothing gets done.
