EQUITV Rolls Out In Western Province

Four Primary Schools in the North Fly District of Western Province will trial the Enhancing Quality in Teaching through TV (EQUITV) Programme beginning this month.

This follows after a Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Education and Ok Tedi Mining Limited signed in 2012. The EQUITV programme initiative is a boost to student learning to raise the standard of education in the province.

The piloting of the EQUITV in Tabubil schools is an option OTML and the Education Media Centre is tapping into, to disseminate educational programs. Tabubil, Ningerum, Finalbin and Migalsim Primary are the school selected to pilot the program.

Each school receives a DVD player, a 32 inch flat screen TV plus copies of CD’s containing Grades 6, 7 and 8 subject lessons.

Tabubil head teacher, Kila Na’awi, was pleased with the program, with more students who will benefit over and over in lessons. “It’s a bonus for our children in the 4 selected schools in the province”, she added.

This initiative also aligns with the move by the provincial education board to centralize schools in the province.
