The electoral office in Morobe will begin its objection period next Monday during which names of people who have died or moved on will be removed from the electoral rolls. The field work has already been completed with data entry nearing completion.
Election Manager, Simon Soheke, made the announcement during the two-day preparation meeting with the returning and assistant returning officers for Morobe in Lae that begun yesterday.
The government has given K400million to the PNG Electoral Commission. K121 million was allocated for security and K297m was given for election preparations.
In Morobe province, a K21million submission was made to the government. However, the provincial election office was asked to revise its budget twice to K10.1million.From the K10million allocation, each district was given K1milllion kina.
Simon Soheke, says the 2017 election will be more challenging than the previous elections.
For Morobe, the biggest challenge will be the timely delivery of ballot boxes into remote locations, security and weather conditions.
Returning officers and Assistant Returning officers are being urged to manage the limited resources available to deliver the 2017 national elections in the province.
Soheke also told the ROs and AROs present that the PNGEC as made some new changes.
The two-day meeting is for the ROs and the AROs to be informed on the status of the roll update, confirmation of the polling schedule, logistical requirements for each electorate and the budget allocation.
