Governor Allan Bird said the East Sepik Provincial Government is formulating a new policy to assist fund students. He said the policy comes as funding in past years had no proper framework policies.
Bird said the policy will complement Government’s tertiary and TFF policy. The policy will see each student allocated K2, 0000 as a component apart from TFF and Tertiary assistance.
The East Sepik Governor told EMTV News that if the open MPs of the Province also provide additional funding, East Sepik students should benefit.
“A crucial part of the policy is that students applying for the assistance must be in schools in the province,” said Governor Bird.
The policy is, however, still in its drafting stages, with ongoing consultative meetings. Governor Bird said the policy is expected to be passed in 2018 and implemented.
For now, Governor Bird said parents must take responsibility and pay school fees. They can then collect refunds from the Provincial Government.
