In an exclusive interview with EMTV, Minister for Petroleum and Energy, Nixon Duban after returning from Japan, said the first LNG gas export was a major bonus for investment and early on target.
Minister Duban said the investment of that size portrays a good image for PNG’s capacity to export LNG cargo to the international markets.
He also clarified that in terms of benefits for ordinary citizens and the country, the Department of Treasury is the line department to disseminate the information.
Minister Duban said the successful export of the first gas is a milestone achievement for the country, given the fact that prior to the start of the project, critics maintained that PNG couldn’t stand such a large magnitude of the project.
He also clarified that the government is aware of its debts to repay but that is only for Treasury department to respond accordingly on that and on the economic benefits of the first gas export.
Following the first gas export, Minister Duban said his Department will now concentrate on Clan Vetting, a grey area that still needs more improvement.
He clarified that most functions relating to landowner funds have been given to the National Planning Department while the Department of Petroleum & Energy only deals with Policy and Regularity aspects of the Industry. Hence, DP will now focus on completing Phase Two of Clan Vetting however, is awaiting the release the release of funds from the Treasury Department.
