The clash between students, teachers and public in Kopen Secondary School in Wabag, Enga Province has been condemned by Education Secretary Dr Michael Tapo.
The clash that caused class disruptions, teachers fleeing for their lives and school property burnt to ashes last week will be investigated in the coming weeks. Secretary Dr Tapo said, DOE investigation team has been sent to Wabag to work with police officers before a report is presented to Education Minister Nick Kuman.
Despite Enga having separate Education policies and Acts, DOE is responsible and will carry out its own investigation, Dr Tapo added.
He said, Minister Kuman wants this matter be dealt with seriously.
Dr Tapo echoed that it would take 2 weeks for investigation to be carried out with results. He called on the public to cooperate with police when investigations commence.
Meanwhile Wabag member Robert Ganim said the environment is tense but under control. He thanked community leaders, the Mobile squad from Mount Hagen and Wabag police for their prompt response in stabilizing the fight.
