by Vasinatta Yama EM TV – Port Moresby

There will be a free diabetes checkup held at Pacific International Hospital, Three Mile clinic in Port Moresby on November 8th, 2014.

This is in support of the Diabetic Association of Papua New Guinea hosted by PIH in conjunction with City Pharmacy Limited group of companies.

This effort is to be part of the World Diabetes Day which is held annually to raise awareness of diabetes and its complications.

The two groups are organising activities for the Diabetes Week in Port Moresby this month, ending it with an awareness walk on the 15th of November.

The event will start off with the free diabetes checkup which was announced by PIH staff, Joel Sarmenta today.

Diabetes is a chronic condition, meaning that it lasts for a long time, often for someone’s whole life.

It happens when there is too much glucose or sugar in our body.

Doctors’ advice is to have a good diet and a lot of exercise.

The awareness walk will begin at the Jack Pidik Park at 5 mile at 7.30 am.

Invitation is extended to non-government organisations, corporates, churches, sports group and other business houses.
