The Minster for Intergovernmental Relations has urged all departmental heads and senior bureaucrats to be more responsible and accountable in service delivery. When officially opening the departmental heads meeting yesterday, Minister Kevin Isifu stated that the Government’s core responsibility is to build this nation.
The departmental heads meeting was hosted prior to the 2019 National Leaders Summit to be hosted by the Papua New Guinea Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill. Presented at the meeting were all national departmental heads, provincial and district administrators including most senior bureaucrats from the Government.
When giving his opening remarks, Intergovernmental Relations Minister, Kevin Isifu, urged the leaders to be Responsible and Accountable in service delivery to the people.
With the Theme ‘Tracking, Consolidating and Charting the Way Forward’, discussions in this year’s National Leaders Summit, and its lead up meetings, will be based on policy implementation. The Minister said, the Government has many good policies, but has failed in implementing them.
The Minister also stressed on the decentralisation of powers as one of his department’s plans for this year; stating that by 2025, more powers will be given to all districts and provinces in the country to enable effective service delivery to the people.
The departmental heads meeting is the first lead up meeting before the National Leaders Summit, to be hosted on the 6th and 7th of this month.
