CRU Ground Sparked By Felix Kapu Cup

A match that sparked the Capital Rugby Union ground over the weekend was the Felix Kapu Cup, played by the premiere division of Nova and Wanderers.

This annual challenge brings out the best from the two clubs.

Nova’s speedster Jacob Wodo’s man of the match performance brought them News with the cup.

It was an anticipated match that triggered the best on-field skills from both teams. Gogo Novas being part of the top five teams in the competition didn’t do much in their earlier matches as they took the field hungry for the win.

PNG Ports Wanderers were a class above the rest, leading the table with prominence wouldn’t easily be beaten. They’ve been recently on spotlight with support from prominent business houses and Vice Sports Minister, Labi Amaiu.

Nova’s playmaker Douglas Guise made sure the ball was channelled evenly as they fought for a metre at a time.

The Wanderers pack clinched in with a dominance tag ready to give in a surprise package, but Novas through Eli Kini successfully collected 2 three points from the penalty to lead  6 to nil.

The new look Wanderers came back firing in the second half and tied the scores with a converted try. Wanderers showed how serious they were to retain the cup as they pocketed a second.

Novas Wingman Jacob Wodo created opportunities for his side with a double and sailed News with the cup at 16 points to 12.

Meanwhile, reigning Champions Trukai Harlequins and arch-rivals Kemele University Piggies, are gaining ground while Defence sits comfortably second spot with 23 points.
