Court sentences City Rangers to 12 years imprisonment for manslaughter

Ipo Yapu, the elder brother of late Romis Misa Yapu, who was allegedly killed by city rangers near Gordons in 2013, thanked the courts for serving justice.

This follows the decision of the National Court which sentenced the two accused involved in his brother’s killing.

Ipo Yapu told EM TV News that after more than 3 years of court battles, justice has finally been served.

In June 2013, late Romis Misa Yapu was allegedly murdered by accused Kila Samson and Jack Anu near Gordons Market in Port Moresby.

The matter was taken to Waigani Committal Court however; the matter was struck out because of lack of police evidence to proceed with the trial.

The plaintiff sought legal advice through the office of the Public Prosecutor and the matter was taken to National Court as an ex officio or indictment offence.

On Tuesday Justice George Manuhu found both accused guilty of manslaughter and sentenced each to 12 years imprisonment.
