City residents were seen today queuing to use BSP automated teller machines. The queues started as early as seven in the morning, with some people coming from as far as the Hiritano and Magi Highway to withdraw funds for their last minute Christmas shopping.
Many, however, expressed frustration as the lines at ATMs that kept growing, while not all available ATM machines were working.
BSP customers were disappointed with the service as they waited for more than an hour for their turn.
The BSP ATM at Four Mile was full to capacity with only two machines working, one to check the balance of a customer’s account balance while the other for cash withdrawal.
There was also a similar situation with the ATMs’ in the JMart Shopping area, in Erima. Even though all three were working, only two could do withdrawals.
Customers said they had to check all ATMs around the city to find those with the least amount of people standing in the ATM queues, so they could do their withdrawals. Customers urged the bank to provide more ATM machines or make sure all machines were working especially during the festive season.
EMTV News managed to talk to BSP Head of E-channels, Natasha Sirimai who said customers should expect these situations as it is peak period where there is heavy usage of ATMs around the city that may cause cash shortage or ATMs being unavailable for a short period of time.
Nevertheless, she said that staffs are on the ground to alleviate the situation to make banking easier for customers in the city during the festive season.
