CCDA and JICA to Implement 4 Year Project to Enhance the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory

The PNG Government through the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), have agreed to implement a project for “Enhancing Capacity to Develop a Sustainable National Green House Gas Inventory for PNG”.

The official Minutes of Meeting were signed today to mark the agreement to finalize the framework of the Project.

The four-year term project is set to begin in August, 2017 and end in 2021.

The Climate Change & Development Authority (CCDA) is conducting the Greenhouse Gas Inventory for the Government to estimate the Greenhouse Gas emissions of the country in the different sectors. These include the energy sector, agriculture & livestock sector, and the forestry sector.

The JICA team from Japan will provide technical assistance in terms of capacity building.

PNG’s Greenhouse Gas Technical experts will carry out data collection, preparation and reporting.

The objective of this project is to prepare and submit PNG’s Third National Communication to fulfill its obligations to the UNFCCC (Article 12).

The outcome of the project will also provide relevant information required to meet other obligations under the Convention.
