The Waigani National Court has given Margaret Ani, the former treasurer of the Cancer Relief Foundation, two weeks to repay the money she misappropriated.
Deputy Chief Justice, Sir Gibbs Salika made the order after state prosecution informed the courts today, that Ani still has over K50,000 to repay.
Ani was the treasurer of the Port Moresby Cancer Foundation when she misappropriated over K66,000.
This case relates to over 70 counts of misappropriation, and dates back to 2012.
In February 2016, the National Court in Waigani found Ani guilty of misappropriating over K66,000 and ordered her to repay the money.
The court found that Ani forged her boss’ signature on 24 cheques and used the money to pay her husband’s debts.
This morning, she appeared before deputy Chief Justice, Sir Gibbs Salika with her lawyer and her husband.
In court, the state prosecution told the presiding judge that Ani had over K50,000 outstanding and needs to pay the amount before the first of March.
Ani’s lawyer, then informed the courts that Ani’s Husband, Nick Frazer has a contract with a water service provider and will be assisting Ani to repay the money.
The matter was adjourned to first of March for Ani to inform the courts whether she has repaid the full K66, 000.
